Candle Safety

Our candles are designed as decorative items, however, caution is need if you wish to burn them please follow the below guide:

Candle Memory

  • Candle wicks arrive already trimmed therefore you can simply light your candle if you wish.

  • THE FIRST BURN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT

  • Eliminate draught when candles are lit. This will cause flickering and smoke and can cause candle dripping.

  • Place lit candles at least 10cm apart to avoid melting and warping due to heat from neighbouring candles.

  • Allow candles to burn for 1 hour per 2.5cm (1 inch) in diameter.

Burning Candles

  • Trim candlewicks to 6mm each time before burning. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning and dripping.

  • Place the candle on a level, heat resistant surface. Always use a heat-resistant candleholder specifically designed for candle use.

  • Ensure that the wax pool is clear of matches, wick trimmings and other debris.

  • The first burn is the most important, get this right and you will get the most out of your candle.

  • To avoid tunnelling ensure you light all wicks and allow the wax pool to reach the container edges.

  • Don’t move a burning candle.

  • Do not place near an open window, in a drafty area or near a fan or air duct.

  • Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room.

  • Do not burn the candle for less than 1 hour or more than 3 hours at a time.

  • If the Candle has multiple wicks, all must be lit every time the candle is used.

  • Discontinue burning a candle when 5cm of wax remains or 1.5cm if in a container.

  • You can always use the remaining wax in a wax burner removing the centre wick.

  • Always keep a burning candle within sight. Never leave a lit candle unattended

  • When lit a candle's wax pool only extends to the same diameter it reached on the last burn. This will cause uneven burns in the future leaving unused wax around the edge of the vessel and shortening the life of your candle.

When Extinguishing

  • To prevent wax from spattering, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the candle flame. Shop candle tools here

  • Do not use a lid to extinguish the flame.

  • Never, ever use water to extinguish a candle.

  • Ensure that the candle is completely extinguished before leaving it unattended.

  • Don’t touch the candle until it has completely cooled, wait until the wax is solid.

Further information can be found on the ACCC website and Fire and Rescue NSW. The above is general information. Our candles are made of various shapes and sizes, burn time and wick length will determine their burn.
